First Steps
A 5-week Course for Parents and Carers of Neurodivergent Children in the Early Years
Venue: Outside of the Box CIC, 3b The Lanterns, 16 Melbourn St, Royston SG8 7BX
A brand new, evidence based 5-week in person course for parents and carers of children aged 0-5 years with a diagnosis or on the pathway for a diagnosis of Autism. Packed with accessible, interactive, outcome focused content we provide a calm, friendly and safe environment for Parents and Carers to develop a good understanding of their child’s needs. As a result of attending this course Parents and Carers will be empowered with a tool kit of strategies and interventions tailored to their family and specifically designed to support the wellbeing and social development of their children under 5.
First Steps is family-centred, offering support with the following outcomes:
• Understanding neurodiversity in their child
• Understanding sensory needs
• Understanding communication differences and preferences
• Supporting and modelling interactions, inventions, and strategies
• Understanding and supporting behaviour
• Supporting and promoting independence skills
The courses will be delivered by our SEND Family Support Team who are trained facilitators and also have extensive experience and training to support and train parents and carers of neurodiverse children including: early years inclusion specialism, the nurture programme, Hertfordshire STEPS, mental health first aid, early bird trainers, AET Train the Trainer and Parental Conflict training.
First Steps will take place on the following dates:

Teas and coffees are provided.
