Flax Processing Workshop

Flax Processing Workshop

Barn Owl BuildingBRIDPORT, Dorset
Saturday 6 June  •  10 AM - 2 PM
Overview

A practical workshop to introduce Flax Forward volunteers to Flax Dressing.

Flax Processing Workshop

Join us to find out more about Flax Dressing - taking retted flax and preparing it for spinning via three stages: Breaking, Scutching (Swingling) and Hackling.

We will explain the various stages of Flax Dressing and demonstrate prototype machinery. There will be an opportunity to do some hand processing and to take home some dresed flax.

We will be joined by Nick Evans from Fantasy Fibre Mill who has been working with Wessex on the design, build and use of the prototype machinery.

Parking is available at the rear of the Barn Owl Building but please try to share transport as space is limited. Wear old clothes or something you don't mind getting messy. Flax Processing does generate fine dust particles, so if you are sensitive you might want to bring and wear a dust mask.

The workshop will start at 10.00 with introductory talks about the Flax Forward Project. Following demonstrations and questions participants will be able to try hand processing for as long as they wish.

Refreshments will be provided.

The workshop will wind up by 14.00.
