Flint Knapping Workshop

Avalon ArchaeologyWesthay, England
Saturday, Jul 4, 2026 from 10 am to 3 pm
Overview

Travel back to the Stone Age and learn how to make your own flint arrowheads with Flint Knapper Jonny Cope.

Travel back to the Stone Age and learn how to make your own flint arrowheads! Spend a fully-hands on day learning the craft of flint knapping. Uncover the secrets of our prehistoric ancestors and learn how they transformed stone into essential tools.

We will supply all that’s needed, and Flint Knapper Jonny Cope will explain and demonstrate the process before you shape flint into an arrowhead or two. Using a mix of traditional and more modern tools you will replicate one of several types of arrow heads.

During the day we will spend time learning about the styles of arrowheads, how they hafted (fitted onto the arrow shaft) and used to hunt game for food.

Requirements

Due to the nature of this workshop we ask that attendees be 15+.
We’ll provide all safety equipment and refreshments.
Dress warmly in full-length trousers and sturdy footwear for this primarily outdoor experience

Event highlights:

  • Hands-on Learning: Engage directly with ancient materials and techniques.
  • Expert Guidance: Benefit from the expertise of an experienced knapper, who will guide you through the entire process.
  • Historical Insight: Gain a deeper understanding for the ingenuity of prehistoric people and their ability to create essential tools from natural resources.
  • New Skill: Acquire a new, practical skill that connects you to ancient craftsmanship.

It’s a unique opportunity to connect with history and develop new skills in a unique environment!
