Overview

Join us for a day of exploring all of the wonderful wildlife that Flint Mill has to offer.

Our Flint Mill Bioblitz aims to both help local community members gain new skills in wildlife ID and grant us a greater understanding of the flora and fauna of the greenspace.

Our Greenspaces officer, Hayley, will also be on site with a team of Links with Nature volunteers to perform some practical conservation tasks. Why not stop by and see what's involved?

What is a 'Bioblitz?'

A 'bioblitz' is an organised event where staff, volunteers and members of the public come together to create a record of all wild species they can find in an area in a set timeframe. Every species is recorded, allowing comparison of the site's diversity with past and future records of the site. Bioblitzes help landowners and land managers to be better informed about how habitat management is impacting their site.

What will be included in the Flint Mill Bioblitz?

We will be hosting a range of sessions throughout the day to capture as much data as we can about which species are calling Flint Mill 'home.'

Sessions will include:

  • Mini-beast hunts
  • Butterfly and dragonfly walks
  • Wildflower safaris
  • Introductions to citizen science recording
  • Tree recording
  • Sweep netting
  • Bird-watching and birdsong ID
  • and more!
