About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Join us on Fri Jun 13 2025 at 13:00 at Northumberland College Equestrian Centre for an exciting day of learning and fun with Amy Marshall of Changing Equine Behaviour Training for an informative afternoon full of explanations and demonstrations of the importance of the clarity, consistency and timing of both groundwork cues and ridden aids.

'Focus on Foundations' will delve into the intricacies of the basic responses which form the beginnings of a solid training structure and sit within the practical application of the International Society for Equitation Science (ISES) Ten Training Principles.  All behaviour problems and issues, no matter how big or small, stem from deficits or confusions in the basic responses.  These then reveal themselves later on in the training.  Whether you are a complete beginner, a leisure owner/rider, or an experienced coach/rider, this clinic is aimed at all levels.

Amy Marshall is 1 of only 5 Equitation Science International Practitioner's in the UK.  She is friendly, kind and compassionate, with a modern, ethical approach to horse training which is easily understood.  Using evidence-based techniques, Amy has a genuine interest and passion for training, with the ultimate aim of producing calm, obedient horses and happy owners!  She holds holds the Diploma of Equitation Science (Equitation Science International) and a BSc (Hons) Psychology. She was first introduced to Equitation Science methods of horse training whilst volunteering on a horseback safari in South Africa. She was immediately fascinated by the techniques used and the results produced. Amy then travelled to New Zealand to shadow a qualified ES Practitioner and visited the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre where she observed a 3-day clinic with Andrew and Manuela McLean. She went on to obtain the Diploma of Equitation Science.

Using the skills and knowledge that Amy has learnt over her many years with horses, but in particular over the more recent years, her aim is to assist and educate people and horses using clear, methodical training techniques and scientific knowledge to help owners understand their horse’s behaviour, improve responsiveness to aids, and solve problem behaviours.
