For a Collective Common Creativity

Dr Oli Mould joins CCIMSS to discuss the ills of self-interest and the merits of a collective common creativity.

Many of the current ills of this world - climate change, xenophobic nationalism, mental ill-health epidemics and the rest - can be blamed on a rampant self-interest that has fuelled a growth in neoliberal and populist rapacious capitalism. But this is not inevitable: self-interest is a socio-political ideological tool that has been carefully nurtured over time, and if understood, it can be challenged to create societies that oppose the injustices of capitalism. In this talk Dr Oli Mould charts a history of self-interest, and posits more empathetic and collective ways of thinking the self which might foster a collective common creativity.Dr Oli Mould is Lecturer in Human Geography at Royal Holloway University of London. He is the author of Against Creativity (2018, Verso).
