Foraging workshop

Foraging workshop

Dynyn Housing CooperativeEglwys Fach, Wales
Saturday, Apr 11 from 10 am to 4 pm
Overview

A foraging course with a difference - not simply what to harvest, but how to connect

What this course covers:

  • Learn how to identify a range of species (edible and poisonous), where to find them, how to harvest them sustainably, their nutritional and medicinal properties
  • Get to know the plants on a deeper level, with observation, sketching and intuition
  • Understand the legalities and ethics of foraging
  • Explore a range of methods of preserving, cooking and preparing
  • Enjoy sampling various wild treats I provide
  • Take part in the the wild salad challenge… can you identify at least 5 species of the mega salad I provide, containing >30 species? Your prize is....... a serving of wild salad :)

I run foraging courses with a difference. Most foraging courses will charge you a lot of money for a plant walk that lasts a couple of hours and teach you to identify and use a range of plants without the context of relationship, place or history.

I don’t simply teach what to harvest – I teach how to relate. Foraging any wild food is an invitation into relationship – we must know how each plant responds to harvesting (some thrive, some tolerate, some suffer), how locally or nationally abundant or scarce they are, how many other people are harvesting in this place, what this plant needs so we can give back in reciprocity rather than just take. I invite people to consider the ecological, the spiritual, the political. My foraging courses last a whole day, because relationships take time.

Courses are held in the wild abundance of Dynyn Housing Co-operative , 22 acres of rewilded land with epic views.

Choose your own ticket price

I use a sliding scale cost and price my courses lower than average, to try and make them more accessible to more people. Foraging knowledge has become a privilege, but it should be a birthright. I only ask you to be honest with yourself about what you can afford. If you can afford to pay the solidarity rate, please do – this supports those that need a concession rate.
