About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

We will move slowly through the woodland, stopping to take part in sensory activities designed to calm the mind and body. Towards the end of the session, there will be the opportunity to lie down for a longer relaxation activity of around 20 minutes. You do not need to lie down and can sit or stand or any combination of these. Everything is optional.

F orest Bathing is a translation from the Japanese, 'Shirin-Yoku' as it was in Japan that these activities began to be used to combat the stresses of city life. Research has shown that the regular use of these types of activities can have beneficial effects on both mental and physical well-being.

I am a strong believer in the benefits of humans spending more time in natural surroundings. Many studies have shown the immense benefits of Forest Bathing and it is my hope that, by offering these activities as donation-based, that more people will be able to participate.

Suggested donation: £1 minimum/£20 regular/£30+ will enable sustainable success of this offering.

My name is Sharon Owen. I started wearenature.org.uk, with the goal of providing both a donation-based, stay-and-play Forest School, for under-fives and their carers, as well as donation-based Forest Bathing for the grown-ups in the urban environment of Wick Woods in Hackney.

I am a strong believer in the benefits of humans spending more time in natural surroundings. So many studies have shown the immense benefits of doing so. I am aware that the prices charged for some Forest School and Forest Bathing activities act as a deterrent to many who would benefit. It is my hope that, by offering these activities as donation-based, that those of us who are able to pay more, will do so and therefore, be able to make these activities sustainable, for those that need to pay less.
