Forge Experience Day 15th March 2026
Have a go at Blacksmithing in a relaxed fun environment. Take home all the items you make, you will be surprised at what you can achieve.
Each experience day is limited to 4 attendees. There will be a minimum of 2 blacksmiths on the day, so you will get the help and assistance you need.
The day will be relaxed and you can progress at your own pace.
The day will start at 09:30 and will end at 17:00
The cost of each experience day is £90 per person + Booking Fee. The price includes all materials, PPE, tea and coffee.
We are a small volunteer group and all proceeds go to supporting the project. Because of this we can only offer a refund if a cancellation is made at least 7 days in advance of the day, this is to allow us to fill the vacant slot.
You will have the opportunity to make several items throughout the day.
Attendees must be 18 or over.
Please Contact the Forge before booking if you, or any of your party, have any special needs.
Please note, you will be working by an open coal forge. You will be instructed on Health and safety and the correct use of tools and equipment. You will be supervised at all times. However, due to the nature of the activity, all attendees do so at their own risk.
We have an outdoor forge that is covered. However, if the weather is truly atrocious then we may have to postpone the event and reschedule.
Clothing to wear;
- A leather apron will be provided on the day.
- PPE (Glasses and Gloves) will be provided
You will be working next to a forge where temperatures in the Fire Pit can exceed 1,000 C. You will be handling hot and dirty metal and coal, so please wear clothes that you are happy to get dirty, such as.
- Jeans or other full-length workwear-type trousers
- Long-sleeved rugby shirt or similar
- Leather boots are preferred, but any stout shoe or boot that fully covers the foot is acceptable.
You will be turned away if you wear unsuitable clothing such as flip-flops, sandals, high-heeled shoes, Crocs, skirts, dresses or Shorts. Determination of Suitable clothing is at our discretion; if in doubt, please ask.
Please try to wear clothing made from natural materials, such as cotton, which is naturally fire-resistant. Clothing made from synthetic materials may discolour, melt or catch fire if accidentally exposed to fire or hot metal.
We can not be held responsible for any damage to clothing.
The Surbiton Community Forge is Fully Insured to run experience days.
