Event description
Come along to learn the basics of pruning of young apple and pear trees with Alan Thornton.

About this event

Formative pruning is important to help young fruit trees grow to be healthy and fruit plentifully. From the session you will understand more about the theory and practice of winter pruning and meet some new people.

Participants will receive a copy of Chloe Ward's excellent pruning guide "for real people with imperfect trees".

If you can, please bring a sharp pair of secateurs and dress for the outdoor weather!

Ben Rhydding Community Orchard is located on the field behind the Esso garage and is accessible from Wyvil Crescent, Wheatley Lane or Valley drive, and is a 5 minute walk from Ben Rhydding railway station. Cars can be parked on Wheatley Lane or Valley Drive.

This is part of a programme of short training courses that you might also be interested in: restorative pruning; bench grafting; top grafting; scything; summer pruning & bud grafting.

Covid-19 might mean we have to change the date, but we would be in touch with registered participants at least a week before the scheduled date if that is the case.

This event is part-funded by Bradford Council and free places are available for residents caring for school or community orchards in Bradford District. If that’s not you please register and make a donation online or on the day. Places are limited.
