FORMcard Workshop with Peter Marigold

Bow Arts is an arts education charity that provides affordable creative workspaces for over 500 emerging artists. Alongside this, Bow Arts manages one of the country's most exciting education programmes, which takes world-class artists into 90 schools to improve the lives and learning of children and young people. Bow Arts runs the Nunnery Gallery, a public gallery that supports a diverse range of high-quality exhibitions and events as well as the delivery of a public arts programme. Established in 1995, Bow Arts holds an important place in east London which is fast becoming known as London’s Artist Quarter.

Join us for family-friendly fun with FORMcard, a unique mouldable bio-plastic that becomes malleable when immersed in hot water. Led by FORMcard inventor and Raw Materials resident designer maker Peter Marigold, this hands-on workshop will use FORMcard to mimic natural materials, a sentiment which inspired the original invention of plastics in east London.
An opportunity to learn about the history behind the invention of plastics and use skills of observation and dexterity to make and mould, this workshop is perfect for children – a chance to both learn and play with materials.
Born in London in 1974, <A HREF="http://www.petermarigold.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Peter Marigold</A> earned his B.A. in Fine Art and Sculpture from Central St. Martins in London in 1997, and his M.A. in Design Products, studying under <A HREF="https://www.pamono.co.uk/designers/ron-arad" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="Ron Arad" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ron Arad</A>, at the <A HREF="https://www.pamono.co.uk/features/master-class.html" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="Master Class" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Royal College of Art</A> in 2006. Early on, he worked in sculpture and theatrical and event scenography (props, costumes, sets, etc.), ultimately focusing primarily on furniture design. An avid collector, much of Marigold’s work is concerned with storage and object display, and he often combines natural and man-made materials within simple, austere structures. Marigold’s clients include Paul Smith, Fendi, Sony, Gallery Libby Sellers, and Li Edelkoort, among others. His work has been exhibited at New York’s MoMA, Design Miami, Design Museum Holon, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Design Museum in London. In June 2009, he was awarded the Designer of the Future Award by Design Miami.
Raw Materials explores the forgotten industrial history of plastic in east London around the River Lea. The exhibition reveals the story of east London's central role in the invention and early development of plastics, showcasing some of the very first plastic objects alongside newly commissioned artwork which tell the story of this material’s remarkable journey.
