Forms of Ground

Revolvis a collective run by Krasimira Butseva, Lina Ivanova, Ibrahim Azab, Lucas Gabellini-Fava, Victoria Louise Doyle, Alexander Mourant and Laura Bivolaru. The collective focuses on creating opportunities for emerging visual artists through open calls, workshops, exhibitions and events.

Seen Fifteen Gallery

The mini-symposium “Forms of Ground" will consider photography’s ability to manifest through process, light and time. The exhibiting artists of F O R M, Seen Fifteen Gallery, will discuss their interdisciplinary practices, touching upon the production of history through the photograph, the role of the archive in the fabrication of knowledge, the incineration of memory and construction of images as physical and intangible sites. The conversation will be extended by guest artists whose practices are concerned with visual imaginations of future history and archeology, the use of material and the inception of psychological spaces, in conjunction with the erasure and remaking of a photograph.The panel discussions aim to reflect on the way photography is consumed and experienced in the 21st century, and its role within contemporary visual culture.Programme:A living memorial, 1 - 1.55 pm - What is the role of photography in the fabrication of memory within the contemporary world? A panel discussion led by Vivienne Gamble with the artists Ibrahim Azab, Krasimira Butseva, Lina Ivanova and Lucas Gabellini-Fava.Time, light &amp; chance, 2 - 2.45pm - How can process and material initiate a rupture in the photograph? Lina Ivanova will lead a conversation between Victoria Louise Doyle and Alexander Mourant.The aftermath of an image, 3 - 3.45pm - To what extent can past events be manifested through the landscape of photography? How can an image contribute to personal and collective memory? Krasimira Butseva will lead a discussion between the artists Dana Ariel and Laura Bivolaru.Archeology of a photograph, 4 - 4.45pm - How to excavate the past and imagine history through photography? Ibrahim Azab will lead a discussion between the artists Giovanna Petrocchi and Giulia Parlato. About the exhibiting artists:<a href="https://ibrahimazab.cargo.site/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ibrahim Azab</a> is a London based artist, exploring language, sculpture and performance within photography. Focusing on the image itself, he considers the photograph as an object which communicates through a visceral and physical process, highlighting the act of seeing and the subconscious. Significantly Azab’s work surrounds the subject of failure within photographic realism, playfully surfacing a phenomenological understanding of perspective, material and immaterial. Azab graduated with a BA in Photography (2017) further more he has exhibited and published as part of Unseen Amsterdam (2017) Elephant Magazine Summer Exhibition (2019), The Photography ideas book (Tate, 2019) and has worked as assistant curator for Peckham 24 ( 2018-2019).<a href="https://www.krasimirabutseva.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Krasimira Butseva</a> is a visual artist, researcher and writer born in Bulgaria and based in England. Krasimira is an associate lecturer in BA Photography at the University of the Arts London LCC and a co-editor of EEP Berlin magazine. Krasimira’s work has been exhibited internationally including Credo Bonum Gallery, Sofia, Bulgaria (2020), District Six Museum, Cape Town, South Africa (2019), EEP Berlin, Berlin, Germany (2019), Brighton Photo Fringe: Collective’s Hubs, Phoenix Gallery, Brighton, UK (2018), Lovech Fine Art Gallery, Lovech, Bulgaria (2018), NIGHT, PLOVEDIV Gallery, Plovdiv, Bulgaria (2017) and Pingyao International Photography Festival, Pingyao, China (2016).<a href="http://lucasgabellinifava.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lucas Gabellini-Fava</a> is a London based artist, who uses personal and found photography, camera-less techniques, alternative printing processes, video and text. In recent works, he entangles elements of technology with memory, agony and satire, creating digital and physical installations. Lucas has previously received the Global Art Agency Best Artist Award, had his work acquired by the University of the Arts London collection and shown at the Metropolitan Art Fair Young Talent Award. <a href="https://linaivanova.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lina Ivanova</a> is an artist based in London working with photography, sculpture and moving image. Often based on autobiographical experience of migration, her practice explores narratives of displacement. Found objects, public and private archival material inform her investigation into the relationship between background, class and status. Having graduated with a BA in Photography (2015), she has completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (2018) and has co-founded Revolv Collective (2017). She has received the Turner Contemporary Portfolio Prize (2018) and completed an artist residency at Ashford School (2017). Lina was invited to be part of the Stuff of Photography five-week workshop at The Photographers Gallery(2019). About the guest artists:<a href="https://laurabivolaru.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Laura Bivolaru</a> (b.1992, Iasi, Romania) is a visual artist living and working in London, UK. Her practice explores tropes of Eastern European identity that derive from the micro-environment of the family and extend to the nation. The home is seen as a transitional space between self and society, a site of negotiation where the quest for truth clashes with domestic myths. She holds a First Class Honours Degree in Photographic Arts from the University of Westminster and an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art.<a href="http://www.victorialouisedoyle.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Victoria Louise Doyle i</a>s an artist based between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and London. She recently obtained a MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art and was the recipient of the 2019 RCA X Metro Mentorship Award. She is a member of Planetary Processing an artist-led Peer Forum previously funded by Artquest and hosted by The Photographers' Gallery. And is also a member of The Collective Studio run by The NewBridge Project in partnership with Newcastle University &amp; Newcastle University Institute for Creative Arts Practice. Recent exhibitions include; Writing Photographs III, The Art Academy (London 2019), Quivering Horizons, 10a Bridge Street Car park (Berwick 2019), Statement of Being, Deptford Does Art (London 2019), Royal College of Art Graduate Show, RCA (London 2019), Keep Your Eyes Peeled V, aff Galerie (Berlin 2019), Intro:spective, Seen Fifteen (London 2019).<a href="http://www.alexandermourant.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Alexander Mourant</a> is an artist based in London. His work has been included in publications such as FT Weekend Magazine, British Journal of Photography, Photograph, Unseen Magazine and The Greatest Magazine. Recent solo shows include Aomori at The Old Truman Brewery and Unseen Amsterdam, alongside group shows at Jersey Arts Centre and Peckham 24. Mourant is a recipient of grants from ArtHouse Jersey, Jersey Bursary and Arts Council England. He has won the Free Range Award and was nominated for Foam Paul Huf Award.<a href="http://www.giuliaparlato.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Giulia Parlato</a> (b.1993) is an Italian artist based in London, exploring through photography the meanings of history, myths, and object-hood. Her work is influenced by the Arab-Norman Sicilian heritage and aesthetics and Aby Warburg’s studies on the history of art. <a href="https://giovannapetrocchi.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Giovanna Petrocchi</a> is an Italian photographer based in London. By combining personal photographs with found imagery and hand-made collages with 3d printing processes, she creates imaginary landscapes inspired by surrealist paintings virtual realities and ancient cultures. Giovanna graduated from the London College of Communication with a BA in Photography in 2015 and she recently completed her MA in Visual Arts at Camberwell College of Arts, London. In 2019 she exhibited her latest body of work at the Photographers’ Gallery as part of the New Talent show. Currently, she is taking part in the group exhibition ‘ With Monochrome Eyes’ at the Borough Road gallery, London, until the 29th of February.
