FRC Structured Data Birmingham hackathon

Overview

The FRC, working with the Open Data Institute (ODI), is running a series of hackathons to accelerate the use of UK structured data.

Our hackathons are designed to bring together stakeholders from across the reporting ecosystem, from preparers and those that support them to software and service providers, academics, fintechs, investors and civil society, to work on the most difficult issues and maximise the value and impact of this shared strategic UK data set. The Birmingham hackathon is primarily for Government colleagues, regulators, arm's length bodies or associated agencies.

The hackathon aims to:

  • Surface system‑level challenges using ODI’s Data Ecosystem Mapping methodology.
  • Bring together preparers, data users, regulators, accountants, FinTech/RegTech innovators, and academics to build a shared understanding of the reporting data ecosystem.
  • Explore the current available infrastructure, data sets and tooling and identify gaps.
  • Generate clear, stakeholder‑validated use cases that contribute to a future roadmap.
  • Support connection and feedback across stakeholders.
