About this event

  • 2 hours

This unique networking opportunity is in conjunction with Deaf Empowering Network and AM Training, with the joint goal of breaking down percieved barriers to employment.

Join Craig Jones (CEO of DEN), Michelle Calvert (Lead Trainer at DEN) and Jamie Pell (MD of AM Training) as they delve into the world of inclusivity, the Deaf Community of our region and give a taster in Basic British Sign Language.

Deaf Empowering Network (DEN) is a charity for the deaf and hard of hearing community. Our organization is dedicated to breaking down barriers and building bridges of communication and opportunity. At DEN, we believe that every individual deserves the chance to thrive and be empowered, regardless of their hearing ability and circumstances.

With a passionate team of professionals, advocates, and volunteers, we work tirelessly to create a world where the deaf and hard of hearing can access education, employment, and social opportunities with ease. By offering a wide range of services, including BSL (British Sign Language) Interpreting, BSL Classes, Community Outreach Support Services, and Deaf Awareness / BSL Taster Sessions we are committed to promoting inclusivity and equality for the deaf and hard of hearing.

AM Training specialise in supporting unemployed people in the North East to find sustainable work opportunities through working on self-confidence, self-esteem and self-belief, as well as delivering the qualifications required to obtain jobs. We have assisted dozens of people with perceived barriers to employment including disability, learning difficulties, neurodiverse conditions, convictions, long-term unemployment and addiction recovery in their journey into going back to work, and believe that everyone should be given opportunity.

Our flagship product, TransformED, is designed to teach trainers, experienced, upskilled or new to the industry, on how to be engaging, inclusive and innovative in their delivery. We believe that the future of Adult Education needs this, and without it, our skills gaps will continue to increase and those with percieved barriers to employment will contonue to have issues finding sustainable employment. Course attendees, regardless of the subject, require trainers that play to their cohorts’ strengths… not the strengths of the presentation behind them!
