Friendly Places Training

We are a network of faith-based and community organisations serving their communities by delivering public services (such as childcare, health and social care, housing and welfare to work).

FaithAction

Friendly Places is based on the fact that faith groups have the potential to be a huge resource within communities for supporting people, including those who might be struggling with their mental health and wellbeing. It exists to help raise awareness among faith groups of this role. Of course, many groups are doing great things already, so the initiative is also about celebrating the part they are playing, and highlighting this to policy makers and health services.
We have developed a simple pledge that anyone can sign:
I believe that there is a significant and positive role for faith communities to play in the support of mental health.
I pledge to support faith groups in my community to become Friendly Places which welcome and support those struggling with their mental health.

FaithAction offers Friendly Places training, which focuses on how faith groups and places of worship can ensure they are welcoming and accepting to people who might be struggling with their mental health. It’s really about offering good hospitality, which many faith groups do quite naturally – but there might be further small steps they can take that could make a big difference.
The training is suitable for representatives from all faith groups; in the past, professionals from local NHS mental health trusts have also attended and found the opportunity to think about faith and meet local faith groups very useful.
The session is two hours long and covers:
