Event description

Description

Design is currently obsessed with the people as individual users or consumers and this means that many research techniques support observing and recording people and locations only in terms of the solitary experience of interactions and touchpoints.

Yet there are whole ecologies of experiences and rituals that are shared by communities in places.

Learning how to observe and record places beyond the individual is the purpose of this short workshop.

Meeting at the National Gallery, after a short briefing participants will go on 4 walks to create 4 maps on 4 cards. The sequence is to start with doing what is typical (mapping a user journey route through a location) through to mapping what is untypical (mapping the people and their actions all around you in a shared place).

This is a simple workshop to practice skills of stopping, perceiving and recording in a slightly different way.

You can read about the first workshop on Medium - https://medium.com/@acuity_design/from-location-to-place-workshop-review-notes-61f1dd2fb7a5.

Come along to stroll around a museum and practive seeing people and places differently.

COST: this is a donation-based workshop. Pay what you feel like (either here on Eventbrite or in cash on the day). I just need to cover print costs of the card materials you use.
