Fruit tree pruning workshop

Fruit tree pruning workshop

Overview

Do you have a fruit tree in your garden needing a prune? Do you know how to do it? This workshop will teach you how. £10 charge

Are you a gardener? Would you like to learn to prune your apple or pear trees with basic tools, for maximum tree health and cropping?

Using real fruit trees in the mature community orchard close to YCP on Penn Hill, you will be learning the basic principles of removing unhealthy or dead branches, then opening up the tree shape with the correct cuts to make it easier to manage, reduce risk of damage or infection and ultimately to encourage fruiting.

Winter is the perfect time to prune; there are no nesting birds, the branches are naked and the sap is dormant… but it may be cold, so wrap up warm and bring lunch (or purchase at the Ninesprings café). Hot drinks will be provided.

No experience is required. This workshop will involve a moderate level of fitness, unfortunately we cannot accept children or dogs. The location is not wheelchair accessible unfortunately. Tools will be supplied. No working at heights. Wear sensible shoes/boots.
