Fuel Poverty Hackathon
Turning Insight into Action for Swindon Communities.
Fuel poverty affects communities in different ways, and Swindon now has the data to see those differences clearly. This hackathon invites people from across sectors to work together on turning that insight into targeted, workable interventions. The goal is simple: leave the day with ideas that could genuinely be taken forward. If you care about practical solutions and collaborative thinking, we want you in the room.
During the day, mixed teams will explore community cluster profiles, review evidence and best practice, and design interventions that could help households most at risk. The focus is not on building finished products, but on generating ideas and pathways that Swindon Borough Council and partners can use to shape future action.
We welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds, including:
- Data, analytics or research professionals
- Public sector practitioners or policy specialists
- Community, charity or housing professionals
- Energy sector or sustainability specialists
- Service designers, creatives or technologists
- Communications or engagement specialists
- Academics or students with relevant expertise
- Anyone motivated to help tackle fuel poverty locally
A mix of perspectives is essential. You do not need to be technical to take part.
What you can expect
- A structured, collaborative working day
- Access to real local data and insight
- Inputs from practitioners and sector specialists
- Opportunities to connect across organisations and disciplines
- A chance to contribute to work that will feed directly into future local initiatives
What teams will produce
By the end of the day, each group will aim to develop:
- An intervention concept tailored to a specific community profile
- Evidence or reasoning explaining why it could work
- An outline of how it could be delivered in practice
These outputs will inform ongoing work on prevention, early intervention and community wellbeing across Swindon.
