Fun with micro:bit Bots
Get ready to design, build, and control your very own micro:bit robots in this fun robotics workshop for children aged 7-12!
This workshop will give you an introduction to coding games with micro:bit, the pocked-sized computer designed to inspire creative thinking in children.
Each session is 1.5 hours long. Sign up for one of three sessions on Friday 20th February:
10:30am - 12pm
12:30pm - 2pm
2:30pm - 4pm
What you’ll do
You will:
- Learn the basics of computer programming using a friendly drag-and-drop code interface
- Learn about physical computing while loading your code onto a micro:bit electronic device
- Program and control a micro:bit-powered robot
Who’s this for?
This is a workshop for children aged 7-12.
You can see a full list of available workshops here.
What you need to bring
All workshop equipment is provided.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. Every booking automatically grants entry to an accompanying adult. Due to venue size, we ask that you don't bring more grown-ups so that everyone has plenty of room to create!
Cost
This event is free to attend. We charge a £3 booking fee, which is refunded after you attend the event. If you prefer, you can also leave it as a donation to MadLab CIC to support future community-led events. Refunds are processed within seven working days via our booking platform, Eventbrite.
If you cannot afford a ticket, please email office@madlab.org.uk with your name and postcode, and we will be in touch.
Additional information
Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
The session will use MadLab’s workshop micro:bits and Mini Cutebot Kit. If you would like to purchase one for your child to use at home, we recommend their V2.2 Completer Starter Kit and Mini Cutebot Kit.
About the facilitator
This workshop is led by Olly Arif. Olly is one of MadLab’s senior tutors. He is a qualified teacher and SEND specialist who loves inspiring children with fun and engaging activities. Olly particularly enjoys tinkering with electronics and playing with new tech.
