Join our panel of experts in this Question Time style event. Share, discover and debate what it's like to have your genome sequenced, how we obtain information from DNA and what should be done to maintain its safety and privacy.

Dr. Suzi Gage will be keeping order. With an impressive portfolio of science writing through her Guardian blog <A HREF="https://www.theguardian.com/science/sifting-the-evidence" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sifting the Evidence</A> and a research background investigating the links between substance use and mental health, Suzi makes an ideal chair for this discussion. She’ll be taking your questions and putting them to the panel, so come armed!

Gibran Hermani: Gibran is a Research Fellow at Bristol University's MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit and has spent much of his career looking at the genome for answers in order to help understand the causes of human disease.

Robyn Wootton: Robyn is a PhD student at Bristol University's School of Experimental Psychology, investigating the genetics of Wellbeing. She’s participated in the 23 and Me project and so will be bringing experience of what it’s like to have access to information from her own genome.

Axel Walther: Alex is the cancer lead at the <A HREF="http://www.wegmc.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">West of England Genomic Medicine Centre</A>, which is part of the Government’s <A HREF="http://www.genomicsengland.co.uk/the-100000-genomes-project/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">100,000 Genomes Project</A>. ​ He is a consultant oncologist, specialising in the use of chemotherapy to treat cancer patients. He has a PhD in molecular genetics and is the research lead for the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre and clinical lead of the Cancer Theme of the University of Bristol.

6.30pm: Doors open at Trinity Centre. We are upstairs in the Fyfe Hall.
7.00 - 7.30: You will be invited to read information about the issues, talk to us, and then write down questions for the panel. A soft drinks bar will be open. 
7.30 - 9.00: The panel will discuss the issues and you will have the chance to put your questions to them, time permitting. If time doesn't permit, then we'll answer your questions on our website later.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is pay and display parking at the Trinity Centre. 
 
Collated, anonymised data from the Future Debates series will be provided to the Chief Medical Officer for the purpose of informing policy about Genome Data Privacy. The event will not be recorded, nor will any individual be identifiable in any of this information.
