Future Ready: Learn to Code

Curious about working in tech but don’t know where to start? Future Ready: Learn to Code is a series of free, beginner-friendly workshops designed to help you explore different areas of digital work in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Work with others to build something amazing! This fun, beginner-friendly event is your chance to team up and put your new tech skills into action. You’ll work in small groups to create a project based on a theme — with guidance and encouragement from mentors.Hackathon Theme:The theme for this event is "Awkward Experiences". An important aspect of digital products right now is making them easy and accessible to use. We want to flip this and look at how to create digital experiences that leave your users ripping their hair out and chucking their devices at the wall. Take everything you know about user experience and user design and throw it out the window to be as awkward as possible...There will be prizes for the best submissions:1st place: £100 in Amazon vouchers2nd place: £50 in Amazon vouchersThis workshop runs from 10am to 3pm both days.We'll also be providing light refreshments throughout the day; however, please bring your own lunch.Who is this for?Adults aged 18 to 30 who have basic experience with Web Development, Python or Game Development. You don't need extensive coding experience, but you need to be confident using a computer, browsing the internet and saving files.No experience? Try one of our Intro Courses first.What do I need to bring?If you have your own laptop, please bring this with you, otherwise, we have a limited number of devices you can borrow on the day (please indicate if this is required on sign up).CostThis event is free to attend. We charge a £5 booking fee, which is refunded on attending the event. Or, if you prefer, you can leave it as a donation to MadLab CIC to support future community-led events. Refunds will be processed within seven working days.
