Join us for a discussion of futurism in the Cold War and how artists can challenge Big Tech's vision of the future today.

What can the future teach us about the past and present? From Elon Musk&#x27;s space travels to AI and climate change, technology looms heavily in today&#x27;s futuristic imagination. Similarly, during the Cold War, fears of nuclear holocaust, environmental disaster, and automated unemployment were subject to intensive forecasts and speculation by an army of futurists seeking to predict - and shape - the future of the world. Join us for the next OTIS Colloquium, where Dr Lise Butler (City, University of London) and Dr Maria Christou (University of Manchester) will deliver talks on their recent British Academy-funded podcast project, &quot;The Art &amp; Artifice of Prediction,&quot; which examines the histories of the future and futurism since World War II. We will then hear from Luke Wintour and Alex Rugman, two writers who have recently produced an acclaimed show about contemporary Big Tech, &quot;Move Fast and Break Things.&quot; These short talks will be followed by moderated discussion. Drinks and refreshments will be served.
