Garden Workshop - 曼大孔子学院园艺工作坊

The University of Manchester is the proud home of the 2ndConfucius Institutein the UK, a partnership between the University of Manchester, the Chinese International Education Foundation and Beijing Normal University. The main purpose is the teaching of Chinese language through evening classes, school partnerships and teacher training programmes.Manchester Confucius Institute also hosts free public events to promote Chinese language and culture in Manchester. As well as high-profile one-off events we hold regular intercultural activities, webinars, talks at Manchester Central Library and screen Chinese films at HOME as part of the Chinese Film Forum UK.

In 2017, the Confucius Institute started to work with Hulme Community Garden Centre on the project of creating a Chinese garden that can be enjoyed by their visitors. The garden was designed by CI staff, students, and volunteers and includes Chinese elements such as arched gate, greenhouse, water feature and Chinese plants like mulberry trees and bamboo. The foundation is now laid and we need your help to finish the project by end of May. We are running three workshops where you can give your input to finish the garden project and leave your mark at a vibrant Manchester community space. 
<H3 CLASS="MsoNormal">Weds 20/03/19    3-5 pm   Create the masterplan for plants  </H3>
At this session, we will survey the ground and decide what plants to be laid which represents a Chinese garden in all four seasons.
<H3 CLASS="MsoNormal">Weds 03/04/19    3-5 pm     Planting, path and water feature          </H3>
At this session, we will do the planting, prepare the path and install the water feature.
<H3 CLASS="MsoNormal">Weds 29/05/19     3-5 pm    Installing bench and pegoda         </H3>
At this session, we will install the bench and structure for the seating area and celebrate the completion of the project.
PLEASE NOTE that we will meet at the Confucius Institute at 2.45 pm on the day and walk over to Hulme Community Garden Centre together.
