Welcome to Subject Knowledge for Physics Teaching: Atomic Structure!

Come join us on Tue June 3rd 2025 at St Clement Danes School

This course for is for teachers of physics to develop their subject knowledge and pedagogical approaches for teaching Atomic structure. It is to help develop confidence in delivering a topic students often find difficult. It is especially suitable for teachers who lack confidence in teaching atomic physics.

Topics covered include discovery of the nucleus, models of the atom new and old, atoms and isotopes, ionisation, nuclear radiation, half life, the uses and dangers of nuclear radiation, misconceptions, calculations and exam question focus and practice


Outcomes

The CPD will:

  • develop teaching skills and pedegogy for teaching atomic structure
  • ensure greater confidence in the subject knowledge of Atomic Structure.
  • resource you with ideas for practical work and way to teach the mathematical content
