Exploring musical play and creativity

Early Years Music Scotland is delivering a year-long programme of free, high-quality, creative and inspiring continuous professional learning and development for musicians working with children in the early years across Scotland, supported by Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative.

This workshop is free-of-charge to musicians who are resident in Scotland and working with children in the early years (0-5yrs). Non-Scottish residents and non-musicians may purchase a ticket.

This workshop will be recorded and available to view for one month following the event. The recording will be sent to all ticket holders within 48 hours of the event.

Figurenotes can unlock a world of music.

Join us for a hands-on session exploring musical play and creativity. You'll learn how accessible notation can support young musicians to take their first musical steps by playing with colour and shape, with no child left behind.

Figurenotes is an accessible way of notating music that starts with familiar shapes and colours to show pitch and rhythm, removing the initial barrier to reading music. Come and get colourful with Figurenotes and Drake Music Scotland!

This workshop will be delivered by Rebecca Di Rollo, LEARN Outreach Coordinator at Drake Music Scotland. Rebecca has a wealth of experience in early years, schools, community groups, and ASN provision. She has delivered inspiring training and outreach support for Drake Music Scotland since 2019. As a community musician, sound artist, and drum kit instructor, Rebecca has a well-rounded knowledge of different settings and how to tailor your approach to reach everyone. These are skills she has used to advise high-profile organisations, such as ABRSM, MiSST, and the BBC.
