Get Data Smart: Wikidata Workshop
Event Information
Description
New to the wonderful world of Wikidata?
Come to this workshop and develop your data literacy. Wikidata is a free and open knowledge base that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. This workshop will get you up to speed and feeling comfortable with the fundamentals in no time.
Wikidata is a collaboratively edited knowledge base operated by the Wikimedia Foundation. It provides a common source of data which can be used by Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia and by anyone else, under a public domain licence. Wikidata acts as central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource, and others. Wikidata also provides support to many other sites and services beyond just Wikimedia projects!
The workshop will be useful for anyone interested in open data, journalists, students, librarians, fake news fighters, teachers and you!
Andy Mabbett has been a Wikipedia editor since 2003 and has worked on Wikidata since its inception. He has been Wikipedian in Residence at a number of museums, art galleries and learned societies.
