Get Growing
A grow-your-own workshop series designed to support you through your first growing season as a complete beginner!
A series of three hands on workshops giving you the skills to start growing your own food! All workshops are lead by our Community and Outdoor Inititives Officer, Holly, who runs the Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland project. These workshops are suitable for complete beginners wanting to start growing food using environmentally conscious methods.
Sunday 22nd March: preparing a growing area using the no-dig method, starting your first seeds, and caring for young plants
Sunday 21st June: the basics of composting, nature friendly pest management, and how to care for your plants in hot weather
Sunday 20th September: hardy food plants, protecting plants from frost, and making the most of your harvest
All three workshops begin at 11:00am and end at 2:30pm with a break in the middle.
Thanks to support from RCT Climate Action Network Community Resilience Grant, seasonally appropriate seeds produced in Cymru will be provided and you will recieve a good quality reusable module tray to keep. Hot and cold drinks will be available at all sessions.
You are welcome to bring a packed lunch and to access the kitchenette facilities. There are toilets available. There is parking available but we do encourage active travel where possible. Workshops will go ahead in any weather, so please dress appropriately for the weather on the day. There is shelter available but these are practical hands on workshops which will mostly take place outdoors. Please wear sturdy covered footwear.
