Description

This webinar is the first in a series organised by the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA). The hour long session will focus on how new users can ‘get started’ on JASMIN*, covering the following topics:

  • What can JASMIN be used for

  • Setting up your JASMIN account

  • How to set up your SSH keys (to login)

  • Request a login account

  • Which tools should I use to connect?

  • What is a Group Workspace (GWS) and how to request access

  • Transferring files

Anyone with an interest in using JASMIN can participate in this event, whether you are a PhD student, Undergraduate or Professor. We would expect you to have a general understanding of what JASMIN is and have a willingness to learn more.

Outcomes:

  • Understand what JASMIN is

  • Learn how to get access to JASMIN

  • Learn how to transfer files to/from JASMIN

*JASMIN is half super-computer, half-data centre used for UK and European environmental science data. With funding from NERC, STFC built and operate this bustling hub of scientific collaboration. Over 1500 users from a variety of scientific backgrounds now use JASMIN for its large storage and processing capabilities.

With 20 petabytes of disk storage and over 6000 computing cores, JASMIN is a globally unique platform for computing and storing UK and European environmental science data. Jointly managed by CEDA and STFC Scientific Computing Department, JASMIN is funded by NERC, NCAS, NCEO and the UK Space Agency.
