GHost Hosting 16: Ghost-making machines
Friday 16 December / 6.30pm - 8.30pm / Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre, Liverpool, L7 3EE / £3/£2, booking required
Join No Such Thing As Gravity artist Sarah Sparkes for a ‘GHost Hosting’ talk that delves into the other side and asks, ‘what makes a ghost?’. The event plays ‘host’ to an open discussion where guests and speakers can investigate the figurative and practical ways we conceive of ghosts. The GHost Hostings are convened by Sarah Sparkes as part of her GHost research platform.
GHost Hosting 16 - Ghost Making Machines, explores the concept of ‘a formula for ghost making’, looking into paranormal investigations, and the technology and psychology used in them and asking the question, ‘how can technology create ghost narratives?’
Guest speakers will include Natalie Kane, a curator and researcher working at the intersection of culture and technology. Kane is co-curator of Haunted Machines, an ongoing project exploring narratives of myth, magic and haunting around technology. We’ll also be joined by Ann Winsper, paranormal investigator and Parapsychology PHD at UCLan, and Artist Chris Boyd who will present Possession Ritual Complex, a para-theatrical animation, blending digital distortion, glitch and noise in a hypnotic performance.
You’ll also have a chance to explore the Williamson Tunnels, and discover the other end of the GHost Portal that you might have already seen in FACT.
A new commission for FACT and the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre, in association with National Museums Liverpool. The project has been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
