Summit Context

As part of the new mission-led government strategy, addressing economic inactivity is cited as an essential factor in building a more inclusive, sustainable economy. Part of national transformation requires employers to play their part in identifying ways in which to offer a more inclusive environment where disabled people and people with health conditions are empowered to get work and get on in work.

This requires people to have access to ‘good work’ that is both meaningful and beneficial to the individual.

Good work is defined as work that encompasses factors such as:

Job security; work life balance; opportunities for learning & development; supportive organisational culture.

The Good Work, Health and Skills Summit invites you to consider:

‘How can systems working across large place-based organisations, including anchor institutions, support the health and wellbeing of current and future workforce by prioritising inclusive approaches to empower people with health conditions and disabled people to get work and get on in work’.

Aims

Identify existing obstacles to workplaces supporting Good Work principles through the lens of the Leeds Anchor Network.
Identify specific actions for members attending the summit to take forward to address these issues.

Outcomes

Improve people’s health and wellbeing through increasing access to good quality work.
Contribute longer-term to reducing local and regional economic inactivity.
Contribute to decreasing health inequalities through better access to meaningful occupation for groups at increased risk of poorer health inequalities and outcomes.
Ensure local partnership experience is at the heart of future national policy making.

Target Audience

This event is targeted towards senior strategic decision makers in the health and care sector in the Yorkshire and Humber region (e.g. Chief Executives, Accountable Officers, Chief People Officers, Senior Human Resources /Organisational Development professionals etc.)
