OUR WHY

The Grace O’Malley-Kumar Cup honours our much-loved friend, sister, daughter, and teammate. Grace began her hockey journey at Old Loughtonians, later playing for Southgate, and went on to represent England U16 and U18, finishing as top goal scorer in her season. She later joined the University of Nottingham, where she became a BUCS Gold Champion.

While Grace was an exceptional hockey player, her greatest strength was her character. She was always the first to support others in difficult moments and the first to celebrate success, bringing warmth, energy, and joy to every team she was part of. Her compassion and kindness continue to inspire all who knew her.

This event is run by Grace’s friends, who are determined to ensure her memory never fades. By coming together as a community, we aim to celebrate Grace in a way she would have loved. A day full of connection, joy, and togetherness, while building a lasting legacy.

The tournament unites the communities touched by Grace and raises funds for the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation, which proudly supports Raising Her Game. This initiative works to improve diversity and representation in women’s sport by providing free hockey sessions in primary schools and holiday camps for girls from underrepresented backgrounds.
