Sustainable Newham will be running its second Green Fair on May Day, 6th May, in West Ham Park.

This extraordinary event brings together voluntary organisations, musicians, artists, small traders and local businesses to showcase initiatives, projects, organisations and businesses that help protect and enhance the environment, create a sustainable community and contribute to social, economic and environmental justice locally and globally.

Among the many things that visitors can expect, there will be wellbeing activities, including tai chi, arts and crafts for children, a wide programme of talks and workshops through the day covering sustainability topics, herbal medicine, and a variety of stalls selling home made natural products, tasty vegetarian & vegan food, essential oils, teas, jams & chutneys, and eco-friendly health and beauty goodies.

Greenpeace and Re Powering London will be among the many organisations joining on the day, as well as representatives from different East London Community Gardens.

The friends of West Ham park, an iconic space celebrating 150 years this year, will open the community garden in the park and will run activities for all the family in what promises to be a great day out for all ages.

Other highlights to look out for include the local WI, Newham Cyclists fixing your ride, a clothes sale and a tombola.

Entertainment and Music are also guaranteed with the presence of local bands such as Lakehouse Bell, the Dog Jammers, and the Forest Gate Afro Bloc Drumming group who will be kicking off proceedings just before 11am.

Local Councillors will also be in attendance, and Councillor Lewis Godfrey (Green Street West) will open the fair.

The event is run by Sustainable Newham, which exists to provide coordination and support to people and organisations in Newham who are actively running or planning environmental.

Sustainble Newham is part of One Newham, a network of voluntary, community and faith groups that are rooted in local communities and work to improve the lives of people in Newham.

Susanne Rauprich - Chair, One Newham, said: “It is fantastic to see how people in Newham care about their environment. That’s why there are so many green initiatives in Newham. The Green Fair showcases what can be done if we work together and it also is a fun day out for everyone”
