Cumbria Action for Sustainability

This collective and informal gathering is for groups working on sustainability themes from around the region as well as all community groups on Alston Moor.
You’ll get an engaging overview and update on global challenges on climate change and sustainability, and how the UK is responding to them, by Paul Allen from the Centre for Alternative Technology. Paul is one of the authors of the Zero Carbon Britain report, helping to inform UK policy on these issues. He’s a regular at international gatherings on climate change, with a wealth of first-hand experience to share.
Then there’s a chance to hear about the wide range of projects that local groups are working on, sharing inspiration, ideas, experience and how you can get involved. We’ll identify common project activities that people are keen on, can link in with and support.
And, of course, there will be the opportunity to enjoy local food and socialise together.
If you’re able to come to Alston earlier, you can join us at the Alston Flower Show, from 2pm at Alston Moor Federation, Samuel Kings School.
By the end of the Convergence, you’ll have met new people who share your aims, identified some ways we can all work together in the future and share experience and knowledge.
If you’re from a community group based on Alston Moor, the Convergence gives you a fantastic opportunity to meet sustainability groups from across the region and hear about what they’re doing at grassroots level as well as seeing what’s going on across Alston Moor. Whether you’re a crafts group, sports club or food group, we’re all strengthening our community in our different ways, and the Convergence will help bring out the aims we all have in common and ways we can work together to form strong, resilient communities.
If you’re from a sustainability group based elsewhere, you’ll have a chance to meet other groups and you’ll go away knowing you’ve lent your support to the sustainable development of the Alston Moor area by sharing your experiences.
The Convergence is part of the <A HREF="http://www.cafs.org.uk/alston-moor-greenprint/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Alston Moor Greenprint</A>, a three-year project to create a vision for a green and sustainable future for the area, with practical actions and solutions to make it happen linked to community and neighbourhood planning. Led by Cumbria Action for Sustainability, this project is possible thanks to funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

The main hall at the Town Hall is upstairs but there is a lift. There is very limited parking outside the venue, but there is on-street parking around the town centre nearby.
