New for early 2026, we bring you More Stories from the Walls - a short heritage a walk through the city centre discovering more of Leicester's buildings, people and their stories. We include the old Leicester Gaol with a story of one infamous 17th century prisoner, the creation and demise of the Old Free Grammar School and St Peter's church, blue plaques to noteworthy individuals, the Trinity Hospital mosaic and also some familiar buildings in The Newarke area. This presentation is new for 2026 and includes some locations which have featured on other walks, but with some fresh information. This walk is presented by one of our Walk Volunteers. At just over 1 mile, this short walk is ideal for new walkers.

Booking information
This short walk is free to attend, but numbers are limited so please book via Eventbrite to secure your place or phone 0116 454 2860 when booking has opened. Please note our phone line is answered during office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm), not at weekends or bank holidays, nor over the festive period 18 December 2025 - 4 January 2026.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone (during office hours)so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.

New Walkers

If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form. You will receive information about how to do so by email, in the days leading up to the event. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite).

Dress for the weather

Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:

  • Comfortable sturdy footwear
  • Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
  • On cooler days wear appropriate layers and a coat/jacket
  • On warmer days a sunhat and sunscreen are recommended.
  • Please bring a bottle of water with you.

Group size

We kindly ask walkers to book in advance, to help us keep our group sizes manageable.
