What you will learn

In this session you will learn how to grow some of your own plants. You will understand how seeds, cuttings and other propagation methods work and how to decide which one to use when. You will know how to sow different types of seed, both indoors and outdoors, how to take cuttings and grow them successfully and how to grow plants by division.

We will also cover different substrate options, pot materials, and how to make your own pots and mini propagators.

This event is part of a workshop series on sustainable gardening. Check our events page for other workshops.

Facilities and session format

The workshop will be delivered at Hillside Garden by our gardens manager, Ana Oliveira. There will be a mixture of theory and practical demonstrations in our polytunnel and amenity areas. The session will have moments for discussion and brainstorming. Due to space restrictions, it will be limited to 10 participants.

There will be a break halfway through the session and refreshments will be provided.

A digital certificate of attendance will be issued for anyone interested.

Accessibility and practical information

Hillside Garden is fully wheelchair accessible, and we have an accessible Portaloo on site. The polytunnel will provide shelter from the elements but won’t be heated. In hot conditions, the session will be entirely delivered in the garden.

Bring clothes and footwear to remain comfortable outdoors.

Parking is available on Roman Pavement and Hillside Garden is a 2min walk from there. For more information on how to find us, including bus routes, visit How to Find Green Synergy – Green Synergy
