Join us for a series of free events exploring short documentary storytelling, pitching and solutions journalism.

<p><strong>GSDF Labs is a series of free events for filmmakers around the world, a mix of online sessions and in person events on short documentary storytelling, pitching, and solutions journalism.</strong></p><p>The workshops are designed to support filmmakers and video journalists who are developing their short documentary proposals, and feature experts and filmmakers sharing practical tips and insights.</p><p>GSDF Labs marks the opening of the Call for Applications for Global Short Docs Forum 2023. <h2>DAY 1 •  Tuesday 8 Nov 2022</h2><h3>1pm UTC | Online | How to develop your short doc, and get it noticed </h3><p>You have a great idea for a short documentary. Where do you start? Do you have access to good characters, what is going to unfold on screen, what is your story arc? Experts will talk through the process of developing a short documentary project, what to consider as you prepare your pitch, and share unique examples that will inspire you.</p><p></p><h3>3pm UTC | Online | Meet the Filmmakers: Pitches that made it</h3><p>Four filmmakers share their experiences of getting their short docs commissioned or acquired. Working with outlets such as Al Jazeera, Arte, BBC and CBC, our GSDF alumni will share their journey from developing their idea to getting their film in front of a global audience. Packed with practical tips and insights, listen to talented emerging filmmakers as they bring us into the behind the scenes of their filmmaking.</p><p></p><h2>DAY 2  •  Wednesday 9 Nov 2022</h2><h3>Online | Training: Solutions Journalism for Visual Storytelling</h3><p>Have you thought of producing a solutions focused short doc? Stories that highlight people responding to social problems can shift our perspective. They can also shine a light on what we could do elsewhere in the world. 5 trainers from 5 regions will run an in-depth session covering the main pillars of solution oriented reporting, and how these principles can be applied to visual storytelling.</p><p>This training takes place online on Zoom, and runs for 2.5 hours with a break.</p><p>10am  UTC-5 | Latin America Hub</p><p>1pm UTC+1 | Europe Hub</p><p>10am  UTC+1 | Africa Hub</p><p>12pm UTC+2 | MENA Hub</p><p>10am UTC+8 | Asia Hub</p><h3></h3><h3>In person | Workshop: Bring your short doc</h3><p>Bring your short documentary idea to discuss with other storytellers, facilitated by experienced filmmakers. Get feedback from peers and mentors on how to develop your project before you pitch it for funding or commissioning, and explore how to have a more solutions oriented approach in your storytelling.</p><p>In person screenings will take place in following cities. Solutions stories can be told with different reporting and storytelling styles, while also making a good short film. Join us in watching documentaries from across the world, exploring what works, what doesn’t, how could we make it better. Find out how to tell your story in your own voice.</p><p>Online screening will take place at 5pm-7pm UTC.</p><p>In person screenings will take place in following cities.
