Please join us for a College of Medicine Innovation Group networking event featuring Dr Duncan Holmes, European Head - Discovery Partnerships with Academia for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Mr Damian Mole, an academic consultant surgeon and Principal Investigator in the MRC Centre for Inflammation Research and Dr Scott Webster of the University/BHF Centre for Cardiovascular Science.
The event will take place on Thursday 6 April from 12-1pm in the Wellcome Trust Auditorium, Queen’s Medical Research Institute.
This is your opportunity to hear Duncan, Damian and Scott discuss the collaborative partnership the University of Edinburgh has with GSK to discover and develop medicines with the potential to treat severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), a devastating condition for which there is currently no available therapy.
Duncan is European Head of Discovery Partnerships with Academia (DPAc) which is a GSK initiative that creates integrated partnerships with academic groups to undertake early drug discovery and translate innovative research into medicines.
He established DPAc in late 2010, successfully developing the first collaborations in the UK, before the initiative was expanded globally. Multiple projects are now up and running with academics at European institutions.
The Edinburgh collaboration, led by Damian and Scott, was formed through the DPAc initiative in 2011, and has recently reached a key preclinical milestone – a major step in the journey towards the development of a new medicine to treat acute pancreatitis
Duncan will talk in more general terms about GSK and the DPAc initiative - including what makes a good DPAc, what GSK is looking for and how the initiative runs within GSK, while Duncan and Scott will talk about their partnership and experiences of working with GSK.
