Guerrilla grafting

Guerrilla grafting

Wildlife GardenKirkstall, England
Sunday, Mar 8 from 2 pm to 3 pm GMT
Overview

Learn how to top graft onto an existing tree in the wild. Feel connected to nature and community and learn the skills needed to try at home.

Join me for this workshop as part of the Seeds for Growth: walks, talks and workshops encouraging nature reconnection series.

We will meet at the Wildlife Garden at the bus stop on Kirkstall Hill at the crossroads with Morris Lane, Kirkstall Hill and Kirkstall Lane.

We'll take a moment to connect with the space and be aware of our natural surroundings.

Then you'll learn about fruit tree grafting - specifically top grafting (onto a mature tree rather than a root stock, which is called bench grafting).

You will be able to see some of last year's examples of guerrilla grafting, pear scions added to a hawthorn hedge in the wildlife woods to produce food security for the future and increase biodiversity.

I will give a practical demo and then you will have the chance to practise, adding more scions to the hedge and ask any questions.

Every participant will take home X2 pear and X2 apple scions to practise the new skills on trees and hedges near them. Included in ticket price.

This is a public space with no toilets but it is close to a woods and a corner shop.

All tools, equipment and materials provided.

Come and learn this simple yet magical technique!

Look forward to seeing you!
