About this event
- Event lasts 2 hours
Part of Theatreship's guest nights - where contemporary artists take over the ship to highlight the stories they want to tell.
Here's some more info from the creators of the film:
The Balmoral was given the nickname of the 'peoples liner' - built in 1949 and launched from the historic Southampton docks shortly after she now sits dormant in Bristol harbour unable to sail the UK coastlines. In this short film we will meet the dedicated volunteers and team working hard to bring Balmoral back to her former glory and return her to the people.
"As historic ships vanish from British waters, a group of passionate volunteers fights to save the Balmoral—a 1949 passenger vessel moored in Bristol’s iconic harbour—battling time, bureaucracy, and financial struggles to preserve a piece of maritime history before it’s lost forever."
After the film screening, we will be joined by members of Theatreship, Balmoral and filmmaker Harry Knight to discuss the importance of the ship, why so many others are being scrapped and what the future holds for the turbulent waters of historic vessels.
