Guest Event: Daughters of Donbas - Songs of Stolen Children
Join us for a unique concert, where art meets journalism.
Part of Theatreship's guest nights - where contemporary artists take over the ship to highlight the stories they want to tell.
In this edition, we welcome Daughters of Donbas aboard.
Here's some more info from them:
Daughters of Donbas - Songs of Stolen Children is a music/human rights project that deals with the ~20,000 Ukrainian children that have been abducted from occupied regions in Eastern Ukraine and taken to Russia. It’s led by Ukrainian-Canadian singer Marichka, winner of the Amnesty International Prize and former lead singer of Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Balaklava Blues in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer and award-winning journalist Dan Rosenberg.
Marichka has worked as an embedded war correspondent in Donbas, met with families affected by war crimes and the horrors stolen children have experienced in filtration and re-education camps.
Daughters of Donbas blends elements of art-folk, chamber music and Ukrainian folk vocal traditions. Their songs echo ancient textures, while others are stripped to voice and silence — fragile, direct, and raw. There are no electronics, no overproduction — only acoustic instruments, space, and truth. The project is grounded in real stories — especially those of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia during the full-scale invasion. Each song bears witness to a stolen name, a stolen childhood, a silenced voice.

Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If the regular ticket price is beyond what you feel able to afford for whatever reason, please don't hesitate to email us at tickets@theatreship.co.uk and we will do everything we can to help, no questions asked.
We also offer arts supporter tickets, for those that can, to pay a higher price to support the venue, the artists who perform here and subsidised tickets for others.
Due to the historic nature of the ship, we’re sorry to say there is not currently step-free access into the theatre space. We have dedicated staff on hand to help with stairs, and an onsite wheelchair once you’re inside the venue. If you have any access needs, please do e-mail us at access@theatreship.co.uk.
