Turning Ash into Value
The AshCycle project showcases innovative technologies that transform ash from municipal waste, sewage sludge, and biomass incineration into valuable resources. Drawing on pilot projects across Europe, the presentation will highlight how ash can be used in concrete and bricks, while also enabling the recovery of phosphorus and metals. Key lessons learned on the path to sustainable ash management will also be shared.

Industrial-Urban Symbiosis
Funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe Programme, the SYMSITES project is developing Industrial-Urban Symbiosis (I-US) to convert wastewater, bio-waste, and industrial by-products into valuable resources. Through pilot EcoSites in Denmark, Austria, Greece, and Spain, the project demonstrates how technologies can foster industrial-urban collaboration. The presentation will focus on experiences from the Danish EcoSite and invite participants to engage in a short interactive session to help shape the future of I-US solutions.

Utilizing CO₂ from Waste and Wastewater
The WaterProof project is pioneering ways to close the carbon loop by converting CO₂ emissions from waste incineration and wastewater treatment into formic acid – a resource for applications such as cleaning products, fish leather tanning, and metal recovery. This presentation will share research insights, challenges, and stakeholder perspectives on advancing the use of CO₂ as a valuable resource.
