Hackathon Event

All Edinburgh Physics & Astronomy PhD students are invited to join us for a Hackathon-style two-day training event in data exploration and analysis. In this event your groups of 4 - 6 and be given a new data set, from outside physics, to explore over the two days. With support from staff you will run an open-ended exploration of your data, with the goal of producing visualizations to explain your findings, and presenting on them at the end of the second day.You will learn about the tools and approaches that are useful for this kind of "from-scratch" data science, team working skills, and how to present to an unfamiliar audience. The skills you'll gain will be relevant in academia or beyond it.Places for this event will be limited, and if we are oversubscribed we will prioritise getting diversity in subject area and year group. When registering can you add comment with year your PhD commenced and what subject area you are studying.
