About this event
Welcome to the Hacked Knitting Machine Experience Day! Join me at Coburg House for a day filled with creativity and innovation. Learn about two knitting machine hacks, how to process images for knitting and create unique and personalized knitted piece to take home. This event is perfect for machine knitters looking to explore the intersection of technology and traditional crafts. Don't miss out on this hands-on experience that will leave you inspired and amazed!
The workshop will cover two approaches to using domestic knitting machines with digital images. We will cover the creation of suitable files and you will design and make a small piece to take home.
With only two participants per workshop you can be sure of personal attention and a student centred approach. There is an agenda for the day below for guidance but the timings are flexible.
Yarn will be provided and all tools will be available.
Frequently asked questions
Coburg House is an old building with lots of stairs and no lift. My studio is on the second floor and has no windows. I realise this isn't ideal and am looking into alternatives for future events. If you have a wool allergy this may also cause a problem. Please contact me to discuss alternatives.
A digital photograph on a usb drive or some other means to transfer it to my laptop. A notebook and pens/pencils. Also a packed lunch or be prepared to go out to a nearby cafe. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
No. I expect you to be familiar with the basic operation of a domestic knitting machine. I will be running separate classes for complete beginners from early 2025.
Lothian Buses routes 16, 34, 35, 36 to Commercial Street and a short walk around the Aldi supermarket or routes 7, 10, 14, 21 to Great Junction Street (where it crosses the Water of Leith) and a short walk down Coburg Street.
There is on-street parking in the area. There are also ever-changing road works! I will update you in the follow up email if you are attending a workshop.
If I have to cancel the workshop you will receive a full refund. If you have to cancel and I can fill your place then you will also get a full refund. If I can't fill your place then I will refund 75% of the fee.
