On 17 June, one year after her murder, we are celebrating the life and vision of Jo Cox MP. She famously said 'we have more in common than that which divides us' and she was murdered by a man who hated her for it. The judge when sentencing said he had acted 'for the purpose of advancing a political, racial and ideological cause, namely that of violent white supremacism and exclusive nationalism most associated with Nazism and its modern forms.'

What better way to celebrate her life than to bring the many diverse communities of Hackney together for a day of celebration, fun and contemplation. Over 60 community organisations are determined to demonstrate that we do indeed have 'more in common' than that which divide us.

Groups who will be present include Hackney Refugee Forum, Day Mer, Halkevi, the Musallaa An Noor Mosque, London Gypsy and Traveller Unit, the Claudia Jones centre.

Gus John will be speaking on the legacy of legendary Black Radical CLR James. There will be workshops and exhibitions.

There will be a creche and activity for children. There will be aerial yoga (yes you read that correctly) . There wil be campaigners and service providers, there will be a discussion on 'the future of Hackney' and there will be Ben & Jerry's ice cream (as well as food stall).
