It's Hacktoberfest 2019! Let's celebrate open source in Glasgow with prizes, swag and good company!

<blockquote><a href="https://blog.pauby.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Paul Broadwith</a> (@Pauby)&amp; <a href="https://craigporteous.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Craig Porteous</a> (@CPorteous) are running a Hacktoberfest workshop on Saturday the 19th of October 2019 @ Incremental Group, the Garment Factory, Montrose St, Glasgow</blockquote><p></p><h2>Who is it for?</h2><p>If you've never used version control before, played around with it a little or you're a seasoned Pro, come along and earn some free swag! It doesn't matter what programming language you know, or if you know any at all! Everyone can get involved in open source projects! From contributions as small as a spelling error to adding functionality to an application! It's totally free so come along and have some fun!!</p><p></p><h2>What is Hacktoberfest?</h2><p>Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with GitHub and Twilio — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like, and ones they've just discovered. No contribution is too small—bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating. Can't make it to this event? Hacktoberfest is virtual and open to participants from around the globe. Sign up to participate today.</p><p></p><h2>What's happening?</h2><p>We'll kick off at 1pm and aim to pack up for 4.30pm to let you all get home for tea!</p><h3>13:15 Git Fundamentals</h3><p>We'll open the afternoon with Paul talking about Git Fundamentals, giving you an overview on what Git version control is and why you should contribute to open source projects. Any of these words confuse you, Paul's session will clear it all up to get you started!</p><h3>14:00 Hack time!</h3><p>Then we'll put it into practice! Get you set up with a Github account and make your first pull request! If you have projects you already know you want to contribute to or have suggested fixes for others to try, bring the details along with you on the day.</p><h3>Community effort</h3><p>We'll be there with other Git users to help find projects to contribute to and get you. We're not providing any lunch so if you get peckish bring something along or there's plenty choice nearby! We may have some german themed treats though! ;)</p><blockquote>"This is all about encouraging meaningful contributions to the open source ecosystem, for beginners and veterans alike."</blockquote><p></p><h2>What will I need to bring?</h2><p>You're going to need a laptop but that's about it, join in with the community and learn some git!
