Happy to Host

Celebrating and championing open homes for homeless migrants across the UK

  • Are you involved in a hosting scheme for homeless migrants?

  • Do you want to connect with others responding to homelessness in this unique way?

  • Would you like to introduce anyone to hosting in an interactive and informal setting?

This summer, be part of a unique event that brings together people from across the UK to celebrate the amazing work of hosts and raise a collective voice for change.

The ‘Happy to Host’ Convention is taking place on Saturday 13th July from 10am – 4.15pm at Amnesty’s Human Rights Centre, New Inns Yard, London.

The packed programme for the day includes live comedy from the fantastic No Direction Home, delicious Ethiopian food served from our friend Woin Tegegn at VeganBlu (Head Chef at Migrateful) and a selection of inspiring installations from the No Stranger Place photography exhibition.

The day features input from Air BnB on their ‘Open Homes’ scheme, UNHCR on the global context, NACCOM's Dave Smith on key issues in hosting (including content from the Hosting Toolkit), and experienced psychotherapist Mirjam Thullesen on Boundaries & Self Care.

The morning session will feature a ‘Home Truths’ panel, examining the good, the bad and the funny moments of hosting with input from guests and hosts from across the NACCOM network including Refugees at Home, and in the afternoon, Zrinka Bralo from Migrants Organise and others will lead a panel on ‘Speaking out for Change from your own Doorstep’.

The event is free to attend and we will be able to cover reasonable travel expenses for hosts and prospective hosts*. Simply complete the booking form online.

Hosts are welcome to invite guests and group bookings are encouraged!

Tickets will be available until the 8th July unless spaces fill up sooner.

* We have limited funding to cover travel expenses, so we would encourage participants to book earlier to guarantee cheaper travel. Reimbursements of travel will be limited to a maximum amount of £100 per person. Do get in touch if this will cause a problem for you.

When booking your place please indicate how much your travel will be that you would want reimbursed (don’t worry if this is an estimate) to assist us with monitoring the cost of this.

Reimbursements will be made after the event on receipt of confirmation the participants attended the event, plus evidence of the cost of travel such as a train ticket and a completed expenses claim form.
