IKWRO women's rights organisation is delivering a half day training on identifying and responding to ‘Honour’ Based Abuse and Harmful Practices
Aims:
We aim that all professionals will leave with a good working knowledge of harmful practices, including female genital mutilation and “honour” based abuse and forced marriage, and how to safely respond to cases. We will do this by covering the definitions and the different forms of violence within this, looking at case studies, statistics, the barriers to seeking protection, legislation, best practice and effective referral.
Learning Outcomes:
- To understand the context of violence against women and girls and its effects on women.
- To identify harmful practices being perpetrated against women and girls.
- To understand the role of IKWRO and other specialist services.
- To identify the risk factors that can render women and girls vulnerable to harmful practices.
- To identify the signs/symptoms that a woman or a girl is at risk of, or experiencing, harmful practice/s.
- To review the legislative and policy frameworks that exist for the prevention and redressal of harmful practices.
- To receive information about key referral pathways and multi-agency framework
Forced and Child Marriage

Aims:
- Raise awareness about the prevalence and impact of forced and child marriage.
- Provide comprehensive information on the legal, social issues associated with forced and child marriage.
- Equip participants with practical strategies and resources to identify and support victims effectively.
- Outline the current legal protections and obligations concerning forced and child marriage in the UK.
Learning Outcomes:
- Be able to identify signs of forced and child marriage in various contexts.
- Be able to effectively support victims and ensure their safety.
- Learn about and be able to apply best practices and resources in professional roles to address forced and child marriage.
- Explore how to have conversations about forced and child marriage.
