Heal the world workshop

At National Museums Scotland, we care for collections of national and international importance, preserving them, interpreting them and making them accessible to as many people as possible.We have four national museums: theNational Museum of ScotlandandNational War Museum, in Edinburgh, theNational Museum of Flight, in East Lothian and theNational Museum of Rural Lifein East Kilbride.

Timings: 10:15–13:30 or 10:30–13:30 (75 mins workshop, 60 mins exhibition visit)

Can you save humanity? A deadly disease has broken out which could easily go global. How do scientists in real life tackle this kind of medical emergency?
This workshop introduces pupils to the challenges faced by people working in parasitology in the field. How do you fight local infections, while balancing a budget and working within strict time pressures? How do you get the best out of a team and what skills are needed? Pupils will work collaboratively to develop solutions to the twists and turns of an outbreak of disease which, if unchecked, can spread rapidly with devastating results.  
 Class A
10:30-11:45 – workshop
12:00-12:30 – Lunch (space set aside in lunchroom for packed lunches)
12:30-13:00 – Visit Science & Technology galleries 
13:00-13:30 – Parasites Exhibition
 Class B
10:15-10:45 – Parasites Exhibition
10:45-11:15 - Visit Science & Technology galleries 
11:30-12:00 – Lunch (space set aside in lunchroom for packed lunches)
12:15-13:30– workshop
This event is run in partnership with the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee public engagement team.
Classes must be accompanied by a teacher. 
By reserving 1 timeslot, you can bring up to 20 pupils. If you are bringing less than 20, please let us know on the booking form and we may combine with a small class from a different school.

Travel Subsidy
The University of Dundee is able to provide some financial support towards travel expenses for schools attending this workshop. This is specifically targeted at

<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Any schools located within the City of Dundee</LI>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Schools located in Perth and Kinross/Angus/Fife where more than 15% of pupils are in the lowest 20% SIMD category</LI>
</UL>
The support would be up to a max of £200 per school. This is available on a first come, first served basis. Please enquire upon booking for further information.
