Hedglaying Course, Devon Style
Overview
Hedglaying Course, Devon Style
Date: [Date TBD]
Location: EX20 3QT
Come join us for a hands-on hedgelaying course like no other! Learn the traditional Devon style of hedgelaying from our experienced instructors. Hedgelaying, often called 'steeping' in Devon is the traditional way of managing our Devon hedgerows. Using billhook, axe and saw, the stems of young trees are partially severed and bent over to form a living fence, held in place by long pegs, called 'crooks', hammered into the bank. Though there are many different styles of hedgelaying, the Devon way is to create a low and thick hedge along the top of a large bank. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this course is perfect for anyone interested in conservation and rural crafts. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with nature and learn a new skill!
