Help shape earlier pathways into STEM careers
Decoding Underemployment of BAME Graduates, a study funded by the British Academy and undertaken by the University of Greenwich.
We invite STEM Ambassadors and industry partners to join us for a focused workshop exploring the findings from Decoding Underemployment of BAME Graduates, a study funded by the British Academy and undertaken by the University of Greenwich. The report highlights the systemic barriers faced by Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) STEM graduates as they transition from higher education into employment. It points to persistent inequalities, including limited access to networks, bias in recruitment processes, and underrepresentation in senior roles, despite strong academic achievement.A key takeaway is the need for earlier intervention, with gaps in access to networks, real-world experience, and career insight starting in school and continuing through education. This workshop is an opportunity to come together and respond.
- What role can STEM Ambassadors play in building confidence, networks and aspiration from an earlier age?
- How can industry create more accessible and meaningful engagement opportunities?
- How do we work collectively to create clearer, fairer pathways into STEM careers?
STEM Learning were pleased to be involved in this work and to host this next session, where we will share key insights from the report and create space for discussion, reflection, and practical next steps.
